So my trip to France thus far is going well. I’m enjoying noticing all the differences between here and the United States. I have to admit that so far I have seen everything through rose colored glasses, but French culture is a little older than American Culture and they have a little something on us.

I’m pleased with the connections I’m making with my family here. I have always known my great aunts. Now I’ve had the opportunity to meet their children and their children and it seems like a perfect fit. Here in Noisy le Grand I have two cousins around my age. On Tuesday Mom and I are going with Laurance (a cousin around my age) to the Louvre. We won’t have enough time to see all of the Louvre. My aunt has told us that it would take days.

Today (Sunday) we are going to a market. My aunt has told us the particular market we are visiting today has a very large amount of yarn. My cousin Laurence has also said there are huge yarn shoppes in Paris.

Paris is hard to get to for us. On Tuesday we are going to take the metro into Paris. If that trip goes well and seems simple enough I think I might try and maneuver into Paris on my own, but unless I feel more secure with my own ability to speak French that is unlikely.

I have to go. I hope to post more later.

In my opinion getting any real facts about either candidate is difficult or just plain impossible. I want to be open, but I don’t think there is any way someone could convince me to vote for John McCain. Anyway I hope you find the video a little humorous.

And I’m a little scared. I don’t have any real reason to be. I’m just out of my element completely. In reality I need to be put on the edge a little more often so I’m able to handle it better. I have a feeling it is going to be present on my trip to France as well.

Crafts
I’ve gotten a spinning wheel and started spinning. I love it. I’m pretty sure I’ll stick with it. I hope to have something soon to post. I’ve also been knitting washcloths. I’m working on my third one. They aren’t too hard. I’ve also gotten a book on polymer clay. A friend that comes into the knit shop brought in some beads he had made. I really liked them and I kind of thought about using polymer clay to make gauged plugs for my ears.

Documenting my trips
I’ve bought and HD video camera and I’m hoping to start doucmenting all this “fun” and “exciting” stuff I’ll be doing. I only shot video out of the car and it’s pretty shaky. I don’t really think it’s usable, but I”m going to keep trying with it. Practice makes perfect. I think.

So that’s all I can bring myself to put together right now. I’m hoping after I eat dinner I’ll feel a little more composed.

France
Oh my gosh! Most of you may know, but for those of you who don’t, I’m going to France for a month! It is going to be amazing. Mom and I leave the 27th of October and we’ll return December 1st. We have slowly started our preparations. The next few months are going to go very very fast for me. In addition to my trip to France I’m planning on visiting Texas next week. Then the first week of October I’m going with my parents to Utah where they are going to be sealed in the temple. It’s part of Mormonism. I’m not Mormon so I don’t know the details, but I do know it means a lot to both of them. After that I’m going back to Texas to attend the Texas Renfest with Ray and Liz.

Sewing
I have a lot of sewing to do. It’s very very difficult for me to find clothes in retail stores that I like, or that fit. I’m planning on making some simple pants and shirts to take to France. As Europe is a little more open to men expressing themselves through clothing I’m hoping I won’t stick out so much. I may stand out anyway because of my size, and the day-glo mumu. I’m also planning on making an outfit or two for the renfest. One will be a monk’s outfit and then I think I’m going to do a simple shirt, vest, pants combo. Neither of them will be historically accurate, but they will both have the right feeling. I’ve also been thinking of knitting a pair of sandals to felt. I have an idea for them that I think will work out pretty well.

Knitting
I’m working on a hat, I think I’ve mentioned it in a previous post. I’ll finish it soon and then I have to start thinking about a lightweight and breathable scarf to wear while I’m in France. I don’t know if I’ll look like a big goober or what, but I think I’ll look ok. I just have to make sure and keep my flaming queerness under control. Most people who have met me wouldn’t think I have any flaming queerness, but they haven’t seen me wear clothing I designed and sewed. I’ve finished my Layla bag. I’ve used the “blog this” feature in Flickr to post the pictures. They are the previous three entries to this one.

Gout
My gout just this morning is doing better. I’m hoping it continues to improve. It could very possibly ruin my trips, but I am determined it won’t get the better of me.
